Probably not. And that's fine. Your Core courses are designed to be foundational to the rest of your education. Aside from being required, these are also excellent sources of intellectual and scholarly inspiration - so don't feel as though you're falling behind or being sluggish if your schedule in Autumn, or even the entire 1st year, only consists of Core courses.
There are only a few courses beyond the Core that are appropriate for 1st year students. There are a number of reasons for this, not least of which are the writing and critical reasoning skills learned in the Core, which most instructors of courses beyond general education assume their students have. During your 1st year meetings, you can talk with your adviser about effective ways to start working non-Core courses into your schedule.
