Orientation Week, or O-Week, began in 1934 as a way to introduce a new class of students to the traditions and community that has made the University of Chicago a unique destination for students from around the world. This eight-day series of events, programs, and meetings provides new students with an in-depth overview of how the College works. Important parts of O-Week include registration for classes, overviews of the various academic disciplines, and meetings with faculty, academic advisers, and fellow students. This year's O-Week begins on Saturday, September 16, 2017 with residence hall move-in and continues through Saturday, September 23, 2017. Parents and families are invited to join in the festivities on Saturday, September 16th and Sunday, September 17th. For more information about events for parents and families, see the Information for Parents and Families section of this website.

O-Week, however, isn't all business. We have a lot of fun too. During the week, students explore the city of Chicago, the neighborhood of Hyde Park, and get to know the other students in their College House. Your journey through O-Week will be guided by our amazing staff of O-Aides, current students who will assist you with everything from moving into your Residence Hall to registering for classes. If you have any questions throughout the course of the week, feel free to ask one of the O-Aides or contact the College Programming Office.

The information in this section of the website is designed to provide you with an overview of O-Week, including access to our O-Book mobile app (available in mid-September), your schedule and guide through Orientation Week. Keep checking back throughout the spring and summer for updates and additional information about Move-In & Opening Day, Class Day, and more.
