Welcome to the UChicago community of parents and families. As your student begins to make his or her transition into the College, we also know that there will be a period of transition for you as well. At the University of Chicago, we consider parents and families to be partners in ensuring their student's success. As partners, we look forward to working together with you to help you learn more about the University and get you invovled in supporting the many programs and services the College has to offer.
The rest of this website offers a lot of information for your student, including things to do before their arrival on campus. We hope that you will offer support for them through this process, while ensuring that they take the personal responsibility to complete each step themselves. You will find that the mantra of developing these sorts of life skills and independence is an important expectation at UChicago. We also hope that you will join us for Family Orientation, occuring on the Sunday of O-Week, for an overview of University resources, important programs, and a truly memorable introduction to your student's academic career. You should also ensure that you read through our Summer Mailings for Parents, which will be sent to you via email and posted online throughout the summer, for information about resources and offices that will be important throughout your student's time in the College.
As a parent or family member of a UChicago student, you are considered part of the extended UChicago community. We hope you will take advantage of the many opportunities we offer to engage with the faculty, staff, students, and alumni on campus and around the world. In addition to the information on this site, you will find additional information and communications on our Parents & Families Website, which will serve as a homebase throughout your student's time in the College. If you have questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us. Welcome to the University of Chicago! We are glad to have you as part of our family of Maroons.
