Step 6: FOREIGN LANGUAGE

All students in the College are required to satisfy a language competency requirement by demonstrating linguistic proficiency equivalent to one year of college-level study. Many students continue language study beyond that in order to prepare for academic research or a particular career path, to connect with family roots, or to become better engaged as global citizens.

UChicago teaches more than 50 languages, and we encourage you to consider them all. You might be surprised at what draws you in.

Visit the Chicago Language Center website for more on the languages offered at UChicago and the opportunities they provide.

If you determine that language would be a good option for Autumn quarter, be prepared to request 2 sections of the appropriate course (or courses, if you're not set on one particular language).
