Get your first taste of the fun, diverse, and rewarding community service opportunities available year-round through the University Community Service Center (UCSC). On Saturday, September 23rd, Engage Chicago with your Housemates through meaningful service projects in the neighborhoods surrounding the University. Engage Chicago not just as students, but as active community members. All entering students are welcome and encouraged to participate to showcase the University's commitment to community.
Service projects are solicited from select host sites throughout the Southside of Chicago. Teams of volunteers learn about their site and participate in a service project to support the site’s work in the community. Successful past projects have included:
Cultivating a community garden
Working with kids on art projects and sports activities
Cleaning and organizing a café that works with the homeless
Organizing donated clothing at a distribution center
This program is organized by the University Community Service Center and the College Programming Office with the support of the Chicago Studies Program, Campus and Student Life, the College, the Center for Leadership and Involvement, UChicago Dining, and College Housing.
